Flame cells are present in mostly fresh water invertebrates including flatworms and nematodes. These cells act as excretory organ inside the body. Their function is more or less like our kidneys. Flame cells have cup shaped structure with numerous cilia which absorb the waste materials and throw them out. The bunch of flame cells is called protonephridia.
