A person is born with a hereditary disease with a weakened immune system due to deficiency of an enzyme. Suggest a technique for complete cure for this disease, identify the deficient enzyme and explain the technique used for cure.

Dear student,
Following are the methods by which we can cure hereditary disease due to weakened immune system due to deficient enzymes:-
1) Treatment by gene therapy where defective gene is replaced by normal genes producing normal enzymes for production of enzymes which enhances the immune system and thus treating the disease.
2) Treatment by replacing the deficient enzymes which results in weak immune system.
Deficiency of enzyme which results in weak immune system can be glucose-6-phosphatase causing hereditary disease called glycogen storage disorder.

SCID - Severe Combined Immunodeficiency. It is an autosomal recessive disease with the deficiency of enzyme Adenosine deaminase. It is cured by gene therapy. They take out the blood stem cell from the bone marrow of the patient and with the help of recombinant DNA technology they remove the faulty gene and replace it with a functional gene. Then the replicate it. Then they place the gene back in the bone marrow. The person is kept under watch for few months and then he is perfectly fine.
