a piece of wire 7/8 metre long broke into two pieces . one piece was 1/4 metre long. how long is the other piece

First we find the L.C.M of their denominators-4 and 8=8

Thus-

7/8 x 1/1 = 7/8

1/4 x 2/2 = 2/8

7/8 - 2/8 = 5/8

Ans- Thus, the other peice of wire is 5/8 metres long.
