A river 3m deep and 40m wide is flowing at the rate of 2 km/h . How much water (in Litres) will fall into thee sea in a minute ?

a 4,00,000

b 40,00,000

c 40,000

d 4,000

[SSC Graduate Level-2011]

Area of cross section of the river = 3 × 40 = 120 m2.
Rate of water flow = 2km/h = (2000/60) m/min
Volume of water flowing through this cross-section in every minute = Area × Rate
= (120)×(2000/60) = 4000 m3 = 4000×106 cc = 40,00,000 Litres
Option (b) is correct.

Height= 3m

Breadth= 40m

Length= 2km

You need to find the volume

Therefore volume= lbh

3 x 40 x 2000m

since 2000 is in hrs

3x 40 x 2000/60

u get 2400000/60 = 4000m3

do not forget to convert m3 into litres

1000l = 1m3

4000m3 = 4000000l

option b is correct.

hope this help!!

its B

here, 2km/h can be written as 2000m/h

so volume of water of river =L*B*H

then, 3*40*2000m=240000m3/h

 as per min =240000m3/60

= 4000m3/min

we know that,1m3=1000L

SO 4000m3=40,00,000L
