A SHORT NOTE ON MATHURA AND MADURAI PLEASE
Mathura:
Madurai:
- Around 2000 years ago Mathura flourished as second capital of the Kushanas.
- During the reign of King Kushana it became a religious centre as there established many Buddhist monasteries, Jaina shrines. it was a centre where some extremely fine sculpture was produced.
- Later on it became an important centre for the worship of Krishna (it still is). Many Buddhist statues were found burried under.
- It was an important trade centre as it was located at the cross roads of two major routes of travel and trade — from the northwest to the east and from north to south.
- Mathura city was fortified along with many shrines in it.
- Farmers and herders from nearby villages were engaged in agricultural practices and provided food for people in the city.
Madurai:
- Madurai was an ancient city (2500 Years ago) in South in the state of Tamil Nadu.
- Language in Madurai was Tamil and Sanskrit.
- It was an important city. Many poetic assemblies (Sangam) were held in this city.
- It was famous for its textile industry where both men and women worked.
