A SHORT NOTE ON MATHURA AND MADURAI PLEASE

Mathura:  
  1. Around 2000 years ago Mathura flourished as second capital of the Kushanas.
  2. During the reign of King Kushana it became a religious centre as there established many Buddhist monasteries, Jaina shrines. it was a centre where some extremely fine sculpture was produced.
  3. Later on it became an important centre for the worship of Krishna (it still is). Many Buddhist statues were found burried under.    
  4. It was an important trade centre as it was located at the cross roads of two major routes of travel and trade — from the northwest to the east and from north to south.
  5. Mathura city was fortified along with many shrines in it.
  6. Farmers and herders from nearby villages were engaged in agricultural practices and provided food for people in the city.
 
  Madurai:
  1. Madurai was an ancient city (2500 Years ago) in South in the state of Tamil Nadu.
  2. Language in Madurai was Tamil and Sanskrit.
  3. It was an important city. Many poetic assemblies (Sangam) were held in this city.
  4. It was famous for its textile industry where both men and women worked.
