. (a) Silicon is classified as a metalloid. Justify this classification. (b) Name two more such metalloids. (c) In which part of the Periodic Table we can look for metalloids. On which side of these we can get non- metals ?

Metalloids are elements  that have properties of both metals and non-metals.
Like metals, silicon can donate its electrons to form compounds and like non-metals it shares electrons to form compounds.
Silicon is a semi-conductor unlike non-metals which are insulators and metals that are conductors.

Other metalloids are boron, germanium, arsenic, antimony, tellurium and polonium.

Metalloids are the elements found along the stair-step line that distinguishes metals from non-metals. This line is drawn from between Boron and Aluminium to the border between Polonium and Astatine.
