achievements of abdul ghaffar khan??

Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan is a key figure among the freedom fighters. He is also known as the Mahatma Gandhi of the North-Western Provinces. Hailing from the region which was a buffer region between the British and the Russians, it was largely garrisoned and oppressed. Unlike many leaders of the region, he believed in a secular and unified India. He was a devout disciple of the Mahatma and opposed Partition. He travelled extensively in the North-western region and created awareness and consciousness of the Pashtuns. He visited over 500 villages and set up many schools in the region. He devoutly followed non-violence and established organisations Red Shirts and Khudai Khidmatgar (Servants of God).

He was arrested during the Salt Satygraha  and was closely associated with the Indian National Congress till 1947. For his achievements during the freedom struggle, he was awarded the BBharat Ratna, India's highest civilian award.
