After reading the story ?Bholi?, what do you understand about the social evil that is
still deep-rooted in our society? Throw light on how dowry is a negation of a girl?s dignity.
Suggest some measures that can be adopted to eradicate this evil from our society

Dear Student,
The story 'Bholi' brings to light an old yet important issue of our society, dowry. Dowry system is being practised since ages. Bholi was treated as a dumb cowgirl but her life changed when the light of education fell on her. Her mentor played an important in shaping up her life. She turned her into an educated, confident girl who was now bold enough to face the evils of the society. She was now aware of her rights and exercised them when the time was right. Hence, she was able to speak up against Bishamber and refused to marry a greedy man like him.
Evil practices like dowry are a denial to a female's dignity and education as well as awareness are the keys to fight against them. In the story, it is evident how after being rightly educated Bholi was able to take a stand for herself.

Regards
