  • The assumption of the three men that they are affected by ailments. The humour is exaggerated when the author assumes that he is suffering from every ailment that he reads about.
  • The incident of the packing and the chaos and confusion involved, is presented in a humorous manner.
  • The description of the towing and the recollection of memories related to this, also add to the humour.
  • The narration of the packing is one of humour and fun. J, who wished to supervise and boss over George and Harris in packing, ended up packing alone while the others relaxed. After J had completed a round of packing, Harris reminded him that he had forgotten to pack his boots. Following this, J was confused as to whether he had packed his toothbrush and ended pulling out everything that was packed, in order to find it. After he had succeed in spotting it, George asked him whether he had packed the soap. But J was least bothered to find out about that. As soon as they were done with the packing of the bag, they started with the hampers. There was confusion and Harris squashed the tomatoes by placing the strawberry jam over it. To add to the chaos, Montmorency got in the way proved to be a nuisance to the three men.  
  • The incident when George stayed in the house of Mrs. Gippings and woke up in the morning, assuming that it was quarter past eight in the morning. In reality, his watch stopped working and that is the reason that he thought so.
  • The search of the three men to find a place to stay. The fact that there was no place to stay forced to think about building a hotel.
  • Jerome describes the fight that Montmorency had with the tea-kettle during the tea-time. Montmorency seemed to be curious about the kettle all along the trip and whenever the water boiled in the kettle, it seemed like he wanted to challenge it. however, he missed this chance each time. He made use of one such opportunity and when the kettle made its first sound, he growled and advanced towards it in a threatening attitude.
