So ABCD is  a trapezium and we know in a trapezium Adjacent angles (next to each other) along the sides are supplementary.  This means that their measures add up to 180$°$ .
So,

And
$\angle$ C  =  $\angle$ D 
And

$\angle$ A +  $\angle$ D  =  180$°$

And given  $\angle$ A   = x + 40$°$  And $\angle$ D   = x - 40$°$  , we get

x + 40$°$ + x - 40$°$  = 180$°$

2x = 180$°$

x  = 90$°$  ( Ans  )

And
$\angle$ A   = x + 40$°$  = 90$°$  + 40$°$  =  130$°$

And
$\angle$ D   = x - 40$°$  =  90$°$  - 40$°$  =  50$°$
