ANSWER IN SHORT BRIEF
1. What bio-diversity do you see in your garden?
2. What is Red Data Book ?
3. Name any three threats to bio-diversity?
4. Why should we conserve bio-diversity ?
5. How can you conserve the endangered species ?
Dear student,
1). Biodiversity is the degree of variation of life forms within a given ecosystem which can be aquatic or terrestrial. The biodiversity garden are rich in variety of flora which can include native plant species that provode food and habitat to native pollinator.
2). Red Data Book keeps a record of all endangered plants and animals and is separate for plants and animals.
3). The three major threats to bio-diversity are ;
5). Steps that are being taken to conserve the Endangered species:
1. Hunting has been banned.
2. Their habitats are legally protected.
3. Trade in Wildlife is now restricted etc.

3). The three major threats to bio-diversity are ;
- Habitat loss and fragmentation -This occurs due to cutting down of trees, filling a wetland, ploughing grassland or burning a forest. These changes can kill or force out many plants, animals and microorganisms, as well as disrupt complex interactions among the species.
- Over exploitation - Humans have always depended on nature for food and shelter, but when ‘need’ turns to ‘greed’, it leads to over-exploitation of natural resources. Over-hunting has been a significant cause of the extinction of hundreds of species and the endangerment of many more, such as whales, Steller’s sea cow and passenger pigeon. Most extinction in the last 500 years is mainly due to over-harvesting for food, fashion and profit.
- Co-extinctions - When a species becomes extinct, the plant and animal species associated with it also become extinct. When a host fish species becomes extinct, its distinctive assemblage of parasites also meets the same destiny. Another example is of a coevolved plant-pollinator mutualism where extinction of one always leads to the extinction of the other.
5). Steps that are being taken to conserve the Endangered species:
1. Hunting has been banned.
2. Their habitats are legally protected.
3. Trade in Wildlife is now restricted etc.
