Are consumers also called saprotrophs or not ??..?

Dear student.

No consumers are not called saprotrophs. Consumer feeds on living organism or recently killed organism. Saprotrophs feed on dead or decayed organism.

Consumers – an organism, usually an animal, that feeds on plants or other animals due to lack of the ability to manufacture own food from inorganic sources. They are heterotroph. Ex: Lion, sheep etc.

Saprotrophs are the organisms that derive their nourishment from dead and decayed organisms. For example: mushroom.
