God particles are sometimes referred to Higgs Bosons in the popular media. However, amongst the scientific community no such terminology is used.

Higgs Boson is name of two scientists first Peter Higgs who predicted their existence on the basis of mathematics and Satyendra Nath Bose who first described the behavior of such light like particles.  

Higgs bosons are particles that can explain why particles have mass, symmetries etc so they are important to physics.

As the these particles are based on mathematical equations the discovery can be controversial.
