arrange the following in orderof increasing covalent character:

MCl,MBr,MF,MI

Dear Student

Following is the increasing order of covalent character of the given halides.
MF < MCl < MBr < MI
This is because the ionic radii of the halide anions increase on moving down the group. Hence, the polarisability of the iodide ions is maximum. This is followed by the bromide, chloride and lastly by the fluoride ions. Consequently, the covalent character of the halides increases down the group.

Hope the answer helps you,
Cheers!
