As a child I had always fancied the apple on the pewter plate. Explain these lines

Dear student

The narrator describes the antique pewter plates as being precious. They were so precious, that they were hung as decorative items. The narrator describes the plate, saying she always liked the apple that was on it. However, now the preciousness of the plates were gone, as Mrs. Dorling and her daughter used the antique plates for everything. Sometimes, they even ate off the plates.
