Assertion: The presence of genetic material as nucleoid is the characteristic of a prokaryotic cell.
Reason: The genetic material in these cells aren't present in nucleus. What will be the answer? Please explain.

Dear Student

Ans. Both Assertion and Reason are true and Reason correctly explains the Assertion.

Prokaryotic cells do not have true nucleus as the nuclear material is not covered by well defined membrane. The nuclear material is spread in the cytoplasm. Prokaryotic nucleus is called nucleoid.

Nucleoid is an uneven and irregularly shaped area inside a prokaryotic cell that contains genetic materials. It is mainly composed of DNA and a small amount of RNA and protein.
