The Bhakti saints had a very significant role to play in bringing about spiritual awareness among people in medieval India. They helped in removing many preconceived social evils such as Sati, child marriage, etc. from the society by spreading the knowledge of bhakti, spiritualism and equality. They also opposed the discrimination of individuals based on the caste system which was very much prevalent in India at that time.
