At high altitudes, why binding affinity of haemoglobin decreases ? explain briefly.

Dear Student,
At high altitudes, there is very less oxygen in the atmosphere. To compensate the low oxygen availability, the body increases RBC production by decreasing the binding affinity of Haemoglobin. The decrease in activity of Haemoglobin with oxygen means that less Oxygen is needed. It will in turn adapt the body to survive in decreased amount of Oxygen.
