The level of growth of aggregate output during British rule was merely. The reasons for such a low output growth rate included backwardness in agriculture of India, policies of British government, ban on handicraft industry, restrictions on foreign trade etc.. Also, the level of growth of per capita output was a meagre 0.2 % during the British rule because individual growth was not possible without the growth of the economy as a whole.
