BOD or biochemical oxygen demand is defined as the amount of dissolved oxygen that is demanded by aerobic microorganisms to break down organic matter present in a given water sample at certain temperature over a specific time period. Thus, more the organic matter, more will be the BOD for a given water sample.
Therefore, they have a direct relationship, as the organic matter increases in a sewage, the BOD also increases.
