Earlier, when the nightingale had expressed pride on the fact of her song being her own, the frog had scoffed at the idea and said  that was nothing to boast of. But now, to shift the blame of the nightingale's death on the poor bird herself he found faults in her and said that 'your song must be your own'. The reversal of statements by the frog is the irony.

Here lies the irony. The frog is a great schemer. He is jealous of the song of nightingale. So he finds faults with her song instructs her to practise hard. He suggests her that she should follow him in singing continuosly loud. But when the nightingale follows him becomes hoarse in her voice. He very cunningly remarks that your song must be your own

  • Her lack of confidence made her believe the frog.

This statement by the frog is ironical. Earlier in the poem, when the Nightingale expressed pride on the fact that her song was original, the frog ridicules her by saying that it isn't anything to boast about. Later when the Nightingale dies, the frog blames the former for her own death by saying that her song wasn't original. In this entire process.... The frog contradicts his own statement.

The frog is a cunning and a cruel creature.at the beginning of the poem we see that the frog says that  there is nothing to boast about the fact that ones song should be ones own .Then it also comments that if you are not impressive and say your song is your own it does not matter. Ironically the frog again comments that"she should have known that ones song should be one own."he says so to completely shift the blame on the nightingale for her stupidity as she trusted the frog and for the cause of her own death.

The frogs statement your song must be your own is Ironical n the frog only had said the nightangle to follow her guidelines and now is saying that your song must be your own she is her natural talent and that due to the great and cruely of the frog

The irony in the poem is revealed in the frog's hypocrisy. At the beginning when the nightingale arrives at Bingle Bog, and casts a melodious spell on all the creatures. The jealous frog intentionally does not praise her. When she asks him how well her son was, he replies, "Not to bad-but far too long..." Later, at the end, after he has succeeded in getting rid of her he says, "Well, poor bird- she should have known
That your song must be your own."

First when the frog comments on the nightingale's song but the nightingale says , " I know it's not divine, but it's at least mine " and the frog replies , " That's nothing to be proud of " and discourages the frog. But in the end, it says , "She was daft, far too prone to influence, she should have known that's one song must be his own", hence this is the irony in the particular line.

Hope this answer helps.

THE FROG'S STATEMENT IS IRONICAL BECAUSE INITIALLY HE SAYS THAT TO BACOME AN EXCELLENT SINGER THE NIGHTINGALE SHOULD SING LIKE HIM BUT LATER HE CHANGES HIS STATEMENT THAT ONE SHOULD HAVE CONFIDENCE IN ONESELF AND NOT TO COPY OTHER .THEREFOR THE STATEMENT "YOUR SONG MUST BE YOUR OWN "IS IRONICAL.

THE IRONY IS THAT THE FROG USED TO TRAIN HER DAY AND NIGHT EVEN IN BAD CONDITIONS ,BUT WHEN IT CAME TO SING THE SONG HE TOLD THAT YOUR SONG MUST BE YOUR OWN
