"But he was no more dishonest than I." Why did the narrator say so for Bill? Explain with reference to The Hack Driver.

Dear student,

Here is the answer:

In the story the narrator states his experience with the hack driver. The hack driver (Lutkins) presented himself as Bill and tried to fool the narrator. He took him around the village pretending to find Lutkins whereas he himself was Lutkins. He pretended to help the narrator and was charging him a lot of money for finding Lutkins. Like Lutkins the narrator noted that he too was dishonest.
