Calculate the change that should be affected in the velocity of a body to maintain the same kinetic energy if the mass of the bpdy is increased to four.

Let the original mass be m1 and the altered mass be m2 ,original velocity be v1 and altered one be v2 .

And m2 = 4m1

KE = ( 1 / 2 ) mv2

KE1 = ( 1 / 2 ) m1v12

and KE2 = ( 1 / 2 ) m2v22

=> KE2 = ( 1 / 2 ) 4m1v22

=> it is mentioned that KE1 = KE2

so ( 1 / 2 ) m1v12 = ( 1 / 2 ) 4m1v22

=> ( 1 / 4 ) = ( v2 / v1 )2

=>  ( v1 / 2 ) = v2
