Yes, demand curve can intersect the x or y axis . Take for example in the case of perfectly elastic demand curve, it intersect the y axis since at a constant price , quantity demanded can be from zero to infinity,and in the case of perfectly in elastic demand curve,it intersects or touches the x axis on which quantity demanded is measured since price of commodity does not affect the demand ,the demand is constant whether price is from zero to infinity.
