Can displacement of an object be equal to the distance travelled by the object?Give one eample.

a body moves in a straight line for 5 km . 

then displacement and distance is same.

imagine your scale   (ruler) as a road. A man is moving from the 0 to 5 . 5 represents 5 km . so the distance of the body is 5km. displacement  = final position - initial position 

                                        that is 5 - 0 = 5 km

in this case displacement and distance is 5 km.
