"The" cannot be used before "Punjab" because it is a proper noun. Therefore it is "I live in Punjab", but u could say " The punjab lions " because here punjab lions is a possesive noun.

We commonly do not use the before name of states, months, days, languages and names of persons.

We do not say the Punjab,the july, the tuesday, the english or the rimliguptha.
