Can sulphur and carbon react with water and if yes then why do the oxides formed by them carbon dioxide and sulphurdioxide react water

Dear student, Carbon and sulphur do not react with water under normal conditions. But Oxides of carbon and sulphur are acidic in nature. Thus, on reaction with water gives respective acids that is carbonic acid and sulphurous acid. Regards,
