Can washington's reaction towards the blood stain be a topic for the theme of the novel?

Washington Otis used Pinkerton's Champion Stain Remover and Paragon Detergent to clean it up before the terrified housekeeper could interfere. He rapidly scoured the floor with a small stick of what looked like a black cosmetic and in a few moments, no trace of the blood stain could be seen. This is one of the key moments in the novel if we look at it from the perspective of a clash between the conservative old-world Europe and the modern, pioneering Americans who forged ahead with an empirical bent of mind. Washington, instead of getting scared, take that stain to task immediately and removes it. Until now, people had not removed the stain but Washington deals with it rationally.
