Soil erosion refers to removal of top layer of soil from one place and deposition to another place by various agents like water, wind etc. and soil erosion by water usually occurs in areas of low or no vegetation.

Rainwater harvesting refers to the collection of the rainwater for use in future by storing it in storage reservoirs usually constructed at rooftops.

So, yes for some extent we can use rainwater harvesting to avoid soil erosion by planting of trees for preventing soil erosion by wind is indispensable.
