A vertical stick 20cm long casts a shadow 15cm long. At the same time, a tower casts a shadow 30 metre long. What is the height of the tower ?

let the height of the tower be h m. its shadow is 30m. long.

the length of shadow of a 20 cm long vertical stick is 15cm long.

At a given time of day ,the ratio of height of an object to the length of its shadow is same for all objects.

therefore:

therefore height of the tower is 40 m.

This question is from ratio and proportion. Calculate the ratio between the Actual Height of the vertical stick and the shadow cast by it. it would be 20 cm / 15 cm = 4/3.

The ratio between the Actual Height of the tower and the shadow cast by it should also be same. Let us put them as togeter.

4/3 = Actual Height of the Tower / Shadow cast by it

or 4/3 = Actual Height of the Tower / 30 meter.

or Actual Height of the tower = 4 * 30 meter / 3 = 40 meter.

Cheers !!!!!!!!! Pranshul.
