Mrs Ruffner is a strong woman character who plays an mportant role in Booker T Washington's life. She is his forst employer. She has a reputation of being strict and has gone through many employees. But, Booker still opts to work for her as she pays 5 dollars a month and this money is needed for his ambition to go to a better school. She demands extreme cleanliness from Booker. She wants him to be frank and honest too. Booker imbibes the values of sincerity, honesty and a strive fro excellence from Mrs Ruffner. She also believes that a social order should exist and that it can be beneficial to all races if it is enforced properly.
