Character Sketch of Mr.Thomas Marvel.
dr. kemp is an ambitious scientist living in port burdock. he is a tall, slender, young man with flaxen hair and a moustache almost white. he is focussed, industrious and aim-gripped fellow, who is doing everything to get a fellowship tp the royal society. he is reserved and for the villagers he is disciplined, idealistic and non-interfering and so very respectable. he is a law-abiding citizen.
dr. kemp knows griffin from the college days and he is also interested in mysterious and strange aspects of science. these traits make griffin sure that he would be his willing associate in establishing a 'reign of terror' nationwide. being a law abiding citizen, kemp alerts authorities about grifffin's nefarious plans and plans to hand him over to the police.
for kemp life is very precious. we feel amazed and dum him a selfish fellow when he rushes out of his house leaving the constable to die, to save his life from griffin, who is running after him. we also have a mind to give him the tag of a cheater, a traitor when he betrays the confidence of his friend. but it is only a passing phase, we soon applaud his courageous attempt to save humanity. his presence of mind and tactful brain gets our appreciation.
dr. kemp is kind at heart. he knows that griffin is a devil, still he asks the attacking people to get off the dying griffin. his heart weeps for his friend and thinks that his friend could reach a great height in the world of science if he had not gone perverted in his aspirations. he tries his best to make griffin work for humanity but fails in his mission. we need such people to tackle anti-social elements.
