Charley's friend Sam is a psychiatrist. So he tends to view people in terms of medics. He talked to many psychic patients daily who told him about their woes and worries. He suspects everything and he tries to convince people that everything is quite normal but it is the perception that changes things. He is practical in nature.

Sam is the psychiatrist friend of Charley in Third level. He is very true to his friend and tries to remove the thoughts of illogical parallel world Charley is experiencing. He tries to understand and believe his friend but gives solution to make him undertsand that third level doesnt exist. he puts in all his efforts to convince his friend who wants to board a train to Galesburg, Illionis, by buying a ticket from third level.
