Childhood experiences and lessons are important to everyone. How did it prove right for Dr Kalam and his life?

Dear Student,

Childhood can be considered as the most important part of a person's life as it helps in inculcating valuable lessons through lived experiences. In the lesson 'My Childhood', Dr. Kalam talks about the influences he had in his life which helped him learn significant lessons. He was highly influenced by his parents, his teachers and his friends. Although they came from a poor family, his parents did everything to provide a loving childhood to Dr.Kalam and his siblings. Dr. Kalam said that he inherited honesty and self-discipline from his father and kindness from his mother. Dr.Kalam's friends who at a young age, practised secularism and believed in human bonds as opposed to religious/casteist divisions, made a lasting impression on him. He was also greatly influenced by his science teacher, Sivasubramania Iyer. Apart from just teaching science, the teacher also taught Dr. Kalam that one must break social barriers to lead a dignified life.
