"Chromoplasts contain coloured pigments like carotene (orange), xanthophylls (yellow) etc." What are the "etc." here?

Pigments in chromoplasts are classified in two classes :

1) Xanthophylls : which contain oxygen

2) Carotenoids : which are hydrocarbons and do not contain oxygen.

There are 600 types of carotenoids known. They provide red , orange or yellow colour to the fruits and some leaves. Some of them are lutein, lycopene, beta carotene etc.

So, the 'etc' in the above statement means the other types of carotenoids present in the chromoplasts.

@ Neeta :- Anthocyanin pigment is not present in chromoplasts. It is present in vacuoles. But it was a good effort, keep posting !!

hi.....chromoplasts are plastids of various colours.Other than xanthophyll and carotene pigments...there are other colouring  pigments like blue ,puple, violet which remain dissolved in cell sap but they are are not associated with plastids and give colour to plant structure and are called anthocyanins,so 'etc' refers to anthocyanins...:-)))))))
