CnH2n+1 is the general formula of which homologous series?

CnH2n+1 is known as Alkyl group which is part of all hydrocarbon compounds containing functional group. In these compounds. for example homologous series of alcohols have the general formula as CnH2n+1OH.

For example, for n=1  CH3OH

 For n=2  C2H5OH

For n=3  C3H7OH and so on.

You can see that the next member differs by previous member by -CH2

@ prince.cenation: u r absolutely wong.....

This general formula is for alkylyl series as CnH2n+2 is the formula for alkane and if we subtract 1 hydrogen from it, it will cause carbon to have a free valency and Free valencies are of alkyl series and we can add any functional group to its free valency provided that  u r taking the series of that functional group only...... if u still have any doubt u r free 2 ask
