Comment on the character of James Bates in about 100 words.

Mr. Bates was a nice and generous man. Gulliver worked as his apprentice for four years. Later he studied medicine for two years and worked as a surgeon on swallow, due to Mr, Bates recommendation. After coming back from the voyage he decided to settle in London and work from there, Mr. Bates recommended Gulliver to his patients. This shows good nature of the man and that he was a good teacher to Gulliver. After Mr. Bates death, Gulliver's business began to fail. So, he decided to  be a ship surgeon. Gulliver is successful in this work. It will not be fair if Mr. Bates is excluded from Gulliver's success. He taught him well and thus Gulliver became a successful surgeon.
