Define an antibiotic? Describe how it is able to control bacterial infection but not viral infections. Writ two water borne diseases.

Well done Priyatam. Keep posting. Just want to add that antibiotics work in two different ways. They either blocks the cell wall formation of bacteria or else stop them from multiplying. Since virus don't have their cell wall and cellular machinery so the antibiotics are not effective against virus. 

Other water borne disease:-

Typhoid Fever, Botulism, Gastroenteritis.

 An  antibiotic is a biochemical produce by a microorganism (e.g., Bacteria or fungi ) which kills or block growth of other microorganisms ( pathogens ) by blocking their life processes without harming human cells, e.g., penicillin, streptomycin.

Antibiotics are effective against bacteria and other non-viral pathogens by blocking some of their biosynthetic patways without affecting human beings. However, viruses do not have their own  metabolic machinery. There are very few biochemical processes that can block viral multipication. Antibiotics are not effective against them. They can be overpowered only by devlopment of immuntity against them, by the body the host. An antiviral product, called iterferon is produced by the cells exposed to the action of virus.

Two water borne diseases are :-

1)Cholera

2) Hepatitis A or Dysentry, etc
