define anabolism and metabolism

Sum total of all the chemical reactions going on in cell is called metabolism. It can be divided into two types.

1. Catabolism- It involves breakdown of organic molecules and usually release energy.

2. Anabolic- It involves synthesis of molecules and usually requires energy.
