1) The word stupa usually refers to dome like structure (semi - circular form) containing the remains of Buddha or his followers or things used by them. Stupas are burial place of Buddhist followers and also it is a place for meditation for others who follow Buddhism
2) Hindu temples had deities such as Vishnu, Shiva and Durga which were worshipped in these shrines. The most important part of the temple was the garbagriha, in which the image of chief deity was kept and worshipped
