It means  normal rainfall that increases suddenly and continues constantly for several days.
It is associated with the arrival of humid south-westerly winds which displace the hot, dry, pre-monsoon regime.
This results in  violent thunder and lightning.

The sudden starting of monsoon in India is called the burst of monsoon.Once the rainfall starts in India,it will continue for a very long period of time.
The monsoon arrives in the first week of june at the southern tip of Indian peninsula.Then it divides into 2 branches -Arabian sea and Bay of bengal.Within 10 days Arabian branch reaches Mumbai.Then after 5 days it reahes Coastal areas of Gujarat and central parts of the country.The Bay of bengal branch reaches Assam in the first week of june.The Arabian and Bay of bengal mergee over the northwestern part of the Ganga plain.Delhi receives monsoonby the Bay of bengal branch in the end of june.
By the first week of july wester U.P,Punjab,Haryana and eastern Rajasthan get monsoon and by mid-july,it will reach Himachal pradesh and rest of the country.
