Development of railways was one of the major reasons of deforestation because: 1.Railways was a new demand, so they cut more trees 2.In order to run the trains,woods were used as fuels 3.Govt had appointed contractors for the railway construction,so they cut the trees in mass scale 4.In order for making sleepers they had cut trees 5.On the railway tracks some trees block,they were cut on a large scale.

many forests were cut down to to make then . The britisher extended these tarcks to transport goods from one place to another . Ultimately 
all these goods were tansported to england through ships which again were made mainly from wood. therefore due to all these reasons there
was a shortage of mainly timbre in the indian forests.
