why did the mughal emperor agree to support the rebels?

  • Mughal power rose to the limelight in India when British power  was at the stage of establish their rule in India permanently
  • They wanted to suppress them
  • They followed annexation policies
  • Some rulers lost their territories and were enraged at these form of policies followed by British
  • Sepoys or soldiers from the regiment too faced insult and distrust by the British soldiers
  • They were given meager pay in their regiment
  • Cartridges made of cow and pig fat was used in their rifles which was against the religion of both Hindus and Muslim soldiers present in the army
  • This in turn lead the soldiers to rebel against the British rule in India
  • Hence, this unrest against the British made the Mughal emperors support the rebels and this was a beginning of first war of Indian Independence
