difference between testosterone and androgens. also tell their functions.

Testosterone is a steroid hormone secreted in large amount by the testes in males, and is also secreted in small amount by ovaries in females. It is also secreted in small amounts by adrenaline gland in males and females both. The level of testosterone is controlled by pituitary gland present in the human body. Testosterone is mainly responsible for secondary sexual characters seen in males i.e. growth of body hair, deepening of voice, production of sperms etc. It also affects the genital areas, brain, vascular system, fat distribution and sexual functioning in both males and females.

Androgen is the generic term given to the  steroid hormones in the males i.e. testosterone or androsterone which controls the functioning of male sex organs, increases the development and maintenance of male sex characteristics and promotes masculanization.

The difference between the two is that androgen is a broader category of hormones which include testosterone.
