Differentiate between inbreeding and outbreeding in cattle. State one advantage and one disadvantage for each one of them.

When two individuals of related ancestry are mated for the production of an offspring, it is known as inbreeding. Advantage of inbreeding is that it results in the formation of purelines. Its disadvantage is inbreeding depression (decline in survival and reproduction). Inbreeding depression can increase extinction risks in small populations.
When two individuals from different populations and subspecies are mated, it is known as outbreeding. It helps to overcome inbreeding depression but sometimes results in outbreeding depression (decline in reproductive fitness). Purelines are not created in outbreeding.

inbreeding means mating between closely related individuals within same breed for 4-6 generations.
benefits are creation of pureline and elimination of harmful recessive genes. but it causes loss in productivity in long run.

outbreeding means mating between unrelated animals.
benefits: helps in overcoming inbreeding depression but doesnot creates purline.
