North India lies in the Indo gangetic plains | South is in the Peninsular Deccan Plateau, surrounded by water bodies. |
People in the North India are referred as Aryans | South Indians are basically Dravidian. |
Some of the important empires here have been during that period were the Guptas, Mauryas | Some of the prominent dravidian empires and dynasties have been Cholas, Pallavas, Chalukyas etc |
Important language during this period were Prakrit, Pali | People here speak Dravidian languages, which includes like Tamil, Telugu, Malyalam, Kannada. |
Nagara style temples existed in the Northern India and were known for their sikharas ( elevated structures), on which the main temple was placed |
Dravidan style temples are found in South India, and have elaborate gateways. These are basically pyramid shaped towers gradually progressing through small stroyes with dome at the top. Mainly made of sandstone, granite , they have wells or temple tanks. |
