Disease helped to create the globalised world '' analysis this statement in the content of 16,19th century

Dear Student,

In the 16th and 19th centuries, diseases were used as weapons of colonisation by the European powers which has certainly helped them in creating a globalised world. The Portuguese and Spanish conquest of America was not merely done using the firepower but the spread of diseases remained their important weapon of conquest and colonisation. For instance, the Spanish conquerors carried germs such as small pox to infect the American inhabitants who were not immune to such diseases. The small pox epidemic spread very widely by infecting the inhabitants and killing large number of people in America and thus paved the way for the European conquest. Thus, the European conquerors have used diseases to create the globalised world by conquering and colonising them in the 16th and 19th centuries.
