Displacement may or may not be equal to distance travelled.
Means

Dear Student,

Consider a circular track of radius r. Suppose an athlete completes one round of the circular track in 5 minutes.Here the distance travelled by the athlete will be equal to the perimeter of the track.But he displacement of the athlete will be zero since the starting and finishing points are the same.

Distance =2πr
Displacement=0
Here, distance and displacement are not equal.

Now, consider a a straight track of length 500m.The athlete starts running from one end of the track and reaches the other end in 10 minutes.

Here, the distance and the displacement are the same since the athlete moves in straight line and in same direction.

Distance=Displacement=500m
Here, distance and displacement are  equal.

Hence we can say that, displacement may or may not be equal to distance travelled .

Regards.
