Distinguish between:
a) Simple and compound epithelium
b) Tight and gap junctions
c) Squamous and cuboidal epithelium
d) Bone and cartilage
e) Blood and lymph

Dear student,
Please find below the answer:

a. Simple and compound epithelium
Simple epithelium Compound epithelium
Simple epithelium is composed of single layer of cells. The compound epithelium is made of more than one layer (multi layered) of cells & thus limited role in secretions & absorption.
It functions as a lining for body cavities, ducts & tubes. The main function is protection. They cover the dry surface of the skin, the moist surface of the buccal cavity, pharynx, and inner linings of ducts of salivary glands & of pancreatic ducts.

b. Gap junction and tight junction
Gap Cell Junction Tight Cell Junction
This junction allows direct chemical communications between adjoining cell cytoplasm. This provide extreme adhesion between cells and they do not allow passage of materials between the two cells
It is present in heart muscles etc. It is present in different types of epithelial cells, gut etc..
It acts as communicating junction. It acts as barrier junction.

c. Squamous and cuboidal epithelium
Squamous epithelium Cuboidal epithelium
Made of a single thin layer of flattened cells with irregular boundaries Made of a single layer of cube-like cells
Found in walls of blood vessels, air sacs of lungs, etc. Found in ducts of glands and tubular parts of kidney nephrons etc

Please post rest of the parts in a separate thread.

Hope this clears your doubt.
Regards.
