Sympethatic and parasympethatic nervous system does act like accelerator and brakes, working opposite but concertedly in rder to keep the vital functions of the body in balance. While sympethatic nervous system prepares and raises our energy level, heart beat for situation like fear, fight etc, the parasympethatic keeps the involuntary organs in proper functioning.
